I have, as you can see, been working on Grateful Heart, by Sharon Cohen. I`m changing some things (bet you`re not surprised!) as I go with the help of a new toy I got recently from the Needleprint site, called Jane Greenoff's` Cross Stitch Designer. A few weeks ago on the Needleprint site Jacqueline offered a free download of a pattern snippet from an antique Scottish sampler. This was undoubtedly the same band that had inspired Sharon Cohen when she designed the large band towards the bottom of Grateful Heart. Don`t get me wrong, I love Sharons designs...but this band bothered me. It just seemed too heavy, and the arcaded band seemed like it was grabbing too much attention from the rest of the sampler.
Changes so far
As soon as I saw Jacqueline's download, I knew I wanted to change the band...lighten it up, and soften it a bit. Time will tell whether or not my changes are successful. It has been fun tinkering with it, at any rate!
I love this band!
I am kitting up supplies an ornie right now too, Autumn Stars, by BBD in the Sept/Oct issue of Just CrossStich. I have always wanted to have some Autumn designs stitched up, as it`s my fav. time of year, but so far haven`t done any. Too many projects, never enough time.
Keep stitching ladies!

I just went back to working on my Grateful Heart also. I am at the blackwork design between the words "impart" and "the". Haven't had much time to stitch so it is slow going. I like your variation in the section you are working on right now. Looking Good!
MJ, Your changes to Sharon's design look like just the right thing to do. The colors on this piece are fabulous! I may have to drag mine out one of these days... I really love your work. You're so on my same wave length about Autumn, even though we live in Naples, FL, now...Autumn has always been my favorite season in New England (home to us). Enjoy it!
Hugs, Deb
Very creative of you to make the changes - it looks great! This is really a beautiful sampler. Look forward to your BBD ornie - I might have to stitch that one too, having done its Christmas companion.
What beautiful stitching! I have not seen this piece before it is exquisite!
Gorgeous!!! Keep up the great work!
Thank you for commenting on my blog! I would love to send HHRH to you. Send me your mailing information and I would be glad to get it off to you. I love the adaptation you have decided to make. I'm sure it will look wonderful when you are finished! Keep up the great work! BTW-Santa was designed by Sandi Gore of Kooler Design Studios.
Looking wonderful, just love the colours, so cheerful especially now everything is going into autumn colours.
