And once again I am posting tributes on all the boards I belong to...and the lack of response never fails to amaze me..I don`t think many people even know what Remembrance Day is...other than a day off, that is...
I post about Remembrance Day to honor my dad, who was a WWII vet...

In The Netherlands, Remembrance Day is on May 4th, but we always watch the services on the BBC on November 11th as well.
I live in a very military area, 2 US Naval bases in the city. Lots of my friends and family are either in the military or have served. Thankfully most people here respect those who have served, especially our veterans from WW2. Thanks your remembrances.
I agree with Suzanne above. We celebrate Remembrance Day in Australia although its not a public holiday. Our main remembrance day is on the 25th April when we commemorate ANZAC day. It's a day when we remember the 8000 Australian and 2700 New Zealand Servicemen who perished on mainly the first day in the first major military action that we were involved in in 1915. It was in Gallipoli Cove, Turkey. Every year thousands of Aussies and Kiwis travel to Turkey to be part of the Dawn Service there. It is supposed to be a magical experience that all those who go there never forget. We also on this day remember all the thousands of ANZAC military personnel who perished and took part in wars all over the world. Next year on the 25th April we are commemorating the 90th anniversary of The Battle of the Somme in France where thousands of Aussies died. Included among these brave young men was my Great Uncle who died age 20. I always on 11.11 take a moment to remember him. - Sandra.
