Cloths Of Heaven...

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths, Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams. ~~

Michigan Sampler Survey

I try to post as many interesting sampler sites as I can. This one is collecting info on existing undocumented Michigan samplers. The coordinator is Eileen Bennet. Wouldn`t it be wonderful to stumble upon a sampler in your attic? Check it out.

And the winner is...

I wasn`t sure how to hand out the awards...all the blogs I have nominated deserve all three in my opinion, but some have already received one or more of the awards. Also, the rules for the Arte y pico are a bit different, so I have three lists, one for Arte y pio, and one for the Brilliante, and one for the I love Your Blog award. I have given some blogs multiple awards, and that in no way reflects poorly on the ones I have given only one to. This was hard for me, as I don`t spend as much time as i`d like reading blogs. Ok, here goes.

First, the Arte y pico. Here are the rules:

1) Choose 5 blogs deserving to receive the award (conception, creativity, interesting equipment and contributing to the community of bloggers whatever the language)

2) Every award must contain the link towards the blog of his author so that it can be visited.

3) Every winner must show the award-logo and put back the name and the link towards the blog that attributed it for her.

4) The winner must show the blog link the Arte y Pico.

5) To Post the rules.

Here are my selections...and I have been narrowing down my choices for hours today...There are so many lovely blogs...it was so hard to choose
  1. Eva
  2. Anne
  3. Lena-lou
  4. Mayte
  5. Susimac
All your blogs are so beautiful ladies...you are really creative.

Now the rules for the I love Your Blog award:

  1. 1 Put the logo on your blog

2 Add a link to the person who awarded you

3 Nominate at least 7 other blogs

4 Add links to those blogs on yours

5 Leave a message for your nominees on their blogs

My choices are (again, it was hard deciding)

    1 Nicki
    2 Katrina
    3 Anne Hawn
    4 Cathy
    5 Sampler Lover
    6 Elisabeth
    7 Myrna

Some of these blogs are old favorites of mine, some are new discoveries. I love reading them all.

The Brilliante rules:

  1. Put the logo on your blog
  2. Add a link to the person who awarded you
  3. Nominate at least 7 other blogs
  4. Add links to those blogs on yours
  5. Leave a message for your nominees on their blogs.

And my choices are:

  1. Cathy
  2. Sampler Lover
  3. Myrna
  4. Becky
  5. Mary Kathryn
  6. S
  7. The Tennessee Sampler Survey

All are beautiful blogs that inspire me and give me hours of reading pleasure. Thanks ladies!

I`m so very flattered!

I have received three awards on this blog! Two from GoldenAngelsWorks and three from Teejay ! (Two of them are for the same award, so I split them up).

From GoldenAngelsWorks these two

And from Teejay those two also plus this one

It is called "Arte y pico". It means 'The Best Art". Thank-you so much ladies, I am quite honored! I`m not so sure my blog is deserving of all these awards, as I tend to neglect it dreadfully from time to time, but it is wonderful to know people read and enjoy my rambling on about samplers. Most people (in 'real life') that I talk to about them, their eyes glaze over after about 60 secs of my enthusiastic ranting!

I will post my choices for awards later today, along with the rules for receiving and awarding them. Again, thank-you!

Hmmmm...

Now this is interesting. I was reading the Scarlet letter site (and drooling, as usual) and I came across this repro sampler by Susey Oliver in 1754.

Notice anything unusual? The alphabet is around the outside edge. Similar to this one,

Here is more info on this sampler.

The Susey Oliver sampler was stitched in Bradford England. She was taught by Maryan Robinson who may have been educated in Scotland resulting in the decidedly Scottish flavor of this sampler. Is this perhaps a clue to the 'Digby Sampler`s' odd alphabet?

Yesterday my friend Michael died. He has been having heath issues for awhile now and they caught up with him. Although I never met him face to face, he was truly my brother and my friend. I loved him like family. He leaves behind a beautiful wife and daughters. There is a hole in my heart a mile wide. No one can ever replace him.

R.I.P Katana Tiger. I know we will meet again.

Well, I guess it`s time for a Celtic Banner update. If I hadn`t had so many visits from frogs, I would be further along than what I am.
It really doesn`t look as if I have made much progress, but I have been stitching at least 4 hrs a day on it, sometimes more. I guess i`m just a slow stitcher.

This is my helper:

I think from that look she senses my sarcasm, don`t you?
